FigLife, the life of figures, is the latest category to be added to my bloggg. FigLife will take on a slice-of-life approach to the lifestyle of my figures, with something very special in the planning process. I hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I do. ^^
I’m launching this category with some beautiful photos from my day out with Kagamin (a.k.a. Fan Expo 2009).
The concept is hardly anything new: take a couple figures, tell a story. Many figure blogs have been there and done that. Hardly anything original. But the focus for me is not to drive traffic to my site, but rather to share my work with others.
I would like to see where my photography takes me. I would like to see what I can do with photoshop. But most importantly, I would like to see how much progress I’ve made in one year’s time. So please let me know if you have any comments/suggestions to improve my work.

All of the photos were taken in downtown, yes DOWNTOWN, Toronto. I got a couple weird looks here and there (including a kid giving me the raised eye-brow), but most people just let me be. I’m not sure about you, but I have this feeling that it would feel “less awkward” if I was taking these photos with a DSLR instead of a compact.
I was going to ask if anyone recognize where this is, but since some of my readers are Torontonians, it’s no fun at all. But you’ll probably recognize this building if you like zombies. ^^
The Inferno Project 
I have taken my Dollfie out! Believe me it’s a lot more difficult to hide a 60cm doll! And first time I did it, I took 3 of them out, because me it was a big haul! I have got an excuse lined up now though, just say you are doing it for your niece and go back to your merry way!
Taking pictures outdoor is a breath of fresh air for me, so much more possibilities, though I would still prefer to avoid attracting too much attention… after all a 60cm Dollfie is unworldly for most general population in USA.
I think it’s not just in the states, but rather anywhere in the world…well…almost everywhere in the world.
^^; regarding the “Stares” i get them pretty often too… for me, i ignore them and continue =/
I still think it’s easier to do so with a DSLR in hand. ^^;;
Yeah, I suspect using a big-ass camera would make people think, “Semi-pro at an artistic project” rather than “an otaku on the loose!” :D
Yeah, exactly my thoughts. You can be taking photos of anything and people will think it’s for a project rather than just random dude amusing themselves.
This is nice. Keep it up. I would love to do something like this too. My poor figures have never stepped out of my house ever since they arrived. ^^”

I had to take moment and think abut zombies in relation with that building and then it hit me. The resident evil movies. lol

Well, at least u took a bigger step than me. The furthers I’ve been outside with my figures is my backyard. >_>

but would the dslr just make them think you’re even weirder for having such a nice camera for figure photography? ^^;; not that i would ever suggest holding off on a dslr :P

I love taking my Kagamin out and about ^^ but I try to be discreet when taking photos of her =P
Thanks. I try to go to places with less people roaming about, but it’s still hard to hide it.
Nice pictures~ I tend to be a rather shy person as well as a bad photographer so I haven’t ever dared to bring anything to take photos outside… orz
Especially in Hong Kong where there’s people everywhere. I think I would avoid taking figures outdoor in HK too.
I totally agree with that thought that youd get less weird stares if youd take those pictures witha DSLR.That thought went through my mind quite a few times.
You look more professional and serious with those and not like some lunatic taking pictures of his toys XD
I might need to trim my beard some to make it work.
Also, in Israel, a bigger camera would just draw more busybodies.
In Israel, it’s both a blessing and a curse, that when you have something going on, people will butt in. They will provide help, for instance, and tell you when your car has issues.
They will also tell it to you after 30 people told you beforehands :)
Hey, better than no one helping you if you needed help. I remember seeing this elderly having a seizure, or something, and fell on the ground with 30+ on lookers in an apartment courtyard. None of them helped her. I got her to sit down on a bench and told the security about the situation, and this is the response I got: “Oh, that happens everyday, we can’t be bothered with that.” SERIOUSLY?!? That’s why I’ve grown to hate my own people, even though I know some of them are good people; their choice of values and priorities are questionable.
We call this the crowd effect: The more onlookers there are, the less likely any single person will volunteer. And it’s self-reinforcing.
Yeah, exactly. And if anyone asks, you can tell them it’s for an art/photography project. ^^v
I have taken my Nendo Nagi out once… although most of my photos were in the mall and during my bus ride. I haven’t taken photos in such a way that you get to block the passageway and so people will definitely notice you… ^^;
The pics are good, but I think it’ll be better if there are less shadows casting on Kagamin.

Yeah, I agree with the shadows…especially with the later photos.
And I didn’t really stand in the middle of the road to take those photos, they were taken off in some corner with next to no one around. ^^
I know what you mean about feeling awkward. On the other hand, I am using a DSLR, and I’ve noticed that there are people who look (but don’t walk up to me and say stuff), but don’t really care about what I’m doing, much less react.
It’s kind of funny how there’s no real sense of persecution I’m picking up from shooting outdoors.
